Tortilla de harina (Homemade flour tortilla)

A simple tortilla can create a number of dishes.

Cookware & Appliances Needed

  1. Stovetop or hot plate
  2. Cast iron skillet
  3. Stand mixer
  4. Dough hook attachment

Ingredients

  1. Flour – 3 cups
  2. Olive oil – 3 TBSP
  3. Salt – 1 TSP
  4. Baking powder – 1 TSP
  5. Water – 1 cup

Instructions

  • Begin by: Adding flour, baking powder, olive oil and water together in a mixing bowl.
  • Using a stand mixer or by hand, mix on low speed until you have a dough ball.
  • Let the dough rest for 20 minutes.
  • Add salt and mix again until salt is completely mixed into the dough ball.
  • Let the dough rest for another 20 minutes.
  • Begin heating a cast iron skillet on medium-low heat.
  • Pinch off small balls of dough and roll out flat into a tortilla on a lightly floured surface.
  • Cook each side of the tortilla on the skillet until golden brown and ensure dough is cooked through. Only 1 flip should be required.
